For those following our adventure, we had an interesting Vanuatu: Travel Advisories Update come through last night:

Change Summary:
On 22 January Qantas announced that it has suspended its codeshare agreement with Air Vanuatu effective immediately due to safety concerns about the runway at Port Vila International Airport. This follows Air New Zealands decision to suspend flights between Auckland and Vanuatu from Sunday 24 January. Contact your travel agent or airline for the latest information. The level of advice has not changed.  We continue to advise Australians to exercise normal safety precautions in Vanuatu.

We knew we were going to be confronted with some interesting challenges, but this is something out of left field we had not considered!

Our understanding after Cyclone Pam in March 2015, was that the IMF had authorized a $20 million loan to the Vanuatu Government to upgrade the Port Vila International Airport. So this might actually be good news, as it might create some action!

Fortunately there are a lot of tourism businesses that have a significantly bigger capital investment in Vanuatu than we do. I am sure they will be expressing their concerns with the Travel Advisories Update to the local decision makers and the implications for Tourism.

The positive for Darleen and I is this latest piece of information has not changed our resolve to create our little piece of paradise in Vanuatu.

We are excited at the prospect of working with our neighbouring Mangaliliu village and Ni-Vans (locals) as we try to add value and raise the welfare of the local community.
